These egg-less orange and almond cookies didn’t see the light of day for long in our house. I sent half of them to my neighbor’s home; the remaining half got over as they came out of the oven and a few along with breakfast the next morning!
My neighbor makes awesome Gujarati dishes. And the best part is that she has taken upon herself to introduce us to many of the lost Gujarati dishes; the ones we would not find in any restaurant. So she keeps sending us something or the other every week. In India, we have a tradition of never returning a box empty. So whenever she sends something I will send back an eggless cake, or kulfi or halwa. I would love to send more of baked stuff but I have to make eggless stuff for her so the options are limited [given my limited knowledge]. Last week I decided to try eggless cookies; I had once seen the recipe on food food channel and had the steps loosely jotted down on a piece of paper, which I found in my kitchen diary.
The moment these cookies came out of the oven Sikander started feasting on them until I had to remove them from the table and tell him that half of them are for the neighbor’s kids :).
Orange and Almond Eggless Cookies
Preparation Time: 10 mins| Baking Time: 20 mins| Makes ~20
115 gms butter
100 gms castor sugar
1 tbsp orange juice
1 tsp vanilla essence
Few drops of orange colour
155 gms all-purpose flour (maida)
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp yogurt
- Mix butter and sugar with a whisk
- Add orange juice, essence, color, yogurt, flour, baking soda and baking powder. Mix together with a spatula.
- Keep the dough in the fridge for 10 mins
- Preheat oven to 200 ⁰C
- Divide the dough into ~20 small balls. Flatten each ball in between your palms to make a round cookie.
- Roll into slivered almonds and arrange on a greased baking tray.
- Bake at 200 ⁰C for 20 minutes.
- Let it cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes before packing for your friendly neighbors :). Store them in an air-tight container. At my house, they didn’t last for more one night but it would stay fine for a week 🙂

There’s just something special about homemade cookies, especially chocolate chip cookies, so far as I’m concerned. It’s a great family activity, something even children can help with, and everyone loves eating the results.-

Hello Daren,
Totally agree with it 🙂 The aroma of fresh cookies out of oven and the taste of a warm cookie in your mouth.. mmm.. it’s all so amazing 🙂
Btw I just made chocolate chip cookies with my 5 year old niece last weekend 🙂 Your comment seems like telepathy! I’m going to post it soon on this weekend!
Cheers!
