It is almost time to plan Iftar recipes! In this post, I have put together some healthy Iftar recipes that are delicious, easy to prepare and easy on the body. All recipes are vegetarian.
Iftar literally means “breakfast” though it is taken in the evening. It is the meal taken after sunset to ‘break the days’ fast’ during the month of Ramadan. We take two meals during Ramadan. One in the morning, called Suhur, which is taken an hour before sunrise and other is Iftar taken after sunset.
The fast is usually broken by dates and water. Following the prayers, people gather together for Iftar. In many countries, families often host each other on different days for Iftar parties, especially on the weekends. It is also the time to share food with the lesser privileged.
Usually, since Iftar is after a long period of fasting, the food should be simple and healthy. But very often Iftar recipes ideas are full of deep-fried non-vegetarian snacks. I hope this collection of healthy iftar recipes including drinks, snacks, salads, light meals, and desserts will be helpful to you for planning your Iftar menu.

Ramadan 2018 is just around the corner. Our calendar shows 15th May 2018 as the first day of Ramadan but the actual date may, of course, vary by a day or two. While my husband and I do not observe fasting for all 30 days, we do observe certain precepts during the month. I am usually very careful of all my words, actions and intentions that they are from a pure heart and not cause any harm to anybody. I am not very religious but I am spiritual and Ramadan provides an opportunity to deepen my spiritual growth.
