…it’s mumma!
It has been so long since I’ve posted on the blog that I felt an update was important before I resume with recipe posts :-).
I had wanted to keep our daughter away from public announcements and social media posts till she is 1 year old. But all my life currently revolves around her and if I am sharing about myself, I have to share about her too! So here I am, introducing Sarah! Sarah means bringer of joy and also Princess. She truly is both to everyone in the family. She came after a much awaited wait and won hearts instantly.
Every moment with her is a moment filled with wonder. I feel like she lives in an enchanted world. She looks at everything with such amazement — a bird, a bee, a butterfly, a dog, a cow, the fan and all the photographs in the house are some of her favorite things! She can spend minutes trying to pick a thread or a bookmark from the floor and not get bored. I wish I could learn to see the world with such beginner eyes all the time! 🙂
She is currently 10 months old. Ever since she turned 7 months old, she had this transformation of becoming a little person of her own. She was crawling, teething, eating semi-solid foods and slowly transitioning to solids, her sleep cycles were changing, and she wanted someone to be with her all the time. I felt she also needed our attention at this time. She was now understanding games like Peekaboo, she was now trying to imitate us — in sound and action, and I also wanted to mindfully focus on her food. What she was eating and how she was eating it.
Between 5 to 7 months she mainly ate almost puréed food but since she turned 8 months, I’ve tried that she should eat what we are eating. Since she has no teeth, her food is just a bit more cooked than ours and also with a lot less salt and spices and no hot spices.
So somehow, while a lot of food was being cooked, there wasn’t any time to click, write, post and share. At first I had thought it will be a month before I settle into the new routine. But, before I knew 3 months have already passed and I don’t know if even now I can commit a regular frequency to myself. Last week, I opened a blank document on my laptop to write a post and I stared at it. My mind was totally blocked and after 20 mins or so Sarah woke up and I closed the screen. I opened it back today to the same empty page and this is what has flowed.
I hope I did not bore you or bother you with this update. It was important for me to share this precious little being with you before I could continue because now she is very much the center of my cooking. At 10 months she eats everything that we eat, just that her food has very little salt or jaggery (instead of sugar) and no hot spices. My elder sister was amazed that she is already eating gourds and chewing bread even when she has no teeth. That I do not use a mixer to grind her food to a purée. That she is already picking up fruit and vegetable pieces from her feeding table and putting them in her mouth. Well at least 50% of the time, rest of the pieces go on the floor and then are fed to the birds and the squirrels.
I will soon start sharing her favorite foods and add a new category of ‘Baby Foods’ in the blog.
lots of love,
