This weekend I decided to try to my mother’s healthy cheele recipe. Cheele are kind of an Indian version of savory crepes or pancakes (if you make them thicker but these are very thin). I have earlier posted about Besan ke Cheele (Gram flour savory crepes). This recipe combines the goodness of multigrains and vegetables to make a quick healthy meal. The ingredients just looks like a big list but you can use vegetables of your choice and also adjust seasoning according to taste.
This time I also decided to try a new style for recipe writing. To have pictures of every step. I tried my best and I think I did manage to get all steps in pictures, but it really makes cooking difficult and especially when you have hungry mouths on the table! 🙂 and at least this time it took the joy out of cooking as I was switching between the camera and the cooking. Let’s hope I will be able to do it again :).
Healthy Indian Savory Crepes (Cheele)
Preparation Time: 10 mins| Cooking time: 5 min per cheele | Makes 15
5 tbsp gram flour | 2 onions | Salt to taste |
1 tbsp broken wheat (dalia) | 2 tomatoes | ¼ tsp asafoetida (hing) |
1 tbsp semolina (sooji) | 1 capsicum | 2 tsp red chilli powder |
2 tbsp beaten rice (poha) | 1 inch ginger | 1 tsp garam masala |
2 tbsp whole wheat flour | 1 cup fresh coriander leaves | 2 tsp chaat masala |
Olive oil | 2 green chillies | 1 tsp ajwain |
You can serve these crepes with any dip of your kind. I used tomato ketchup and coriander and mint chutney.
Apart from cheele; dosa is also a popular Indian savory crepe. Check out some easy recipes here:
Nisha Madhulika’s Masala Dosa – Recipe In Hindi. I like the way she talks you through the recipe! I have in fact learnt quite a lot of dishes from her site.

Bon Appetite!
